With the uncompromising pressure from the Indian government, Whatsapp is honing in their strategies to restraint the false information on the internet. Hereafter, users would not be able to forward a single message more than five times to groups or individual users. After five forwards, the icon, quick forward button which is highlighted with a curved arrow next to the message won’t appear anymore thereby restricting the users not to share the information further.

As it has been known that, “fake news travels faster than the truth,”, the digital marketing world is making it factual. A text or video is going viral as fleet as the speed of light. The backdrop of this sudden feature is, more than Fifty (50) people have been killed including an engineer last week in Karnataka, India. WhatsApp messenger has been misusing to influence public opinion during the elections. When someone receives a false accusation on his community, he/she assumes it to be true and forward it to other groups ultimately resulting in the mob violence.

So, the WhatsApp messenger which is owned by Facebook has come up with this solution believing that “these changes keep WhatsApp the way it was designed to be; a simple, secure and reliable way to communicate with friends and family. And as we’ve added new features, we’ve been careful to try and keep that feeling of intimacy which people say they love.”

WhatsApp has confirmed that the restriction is on all formats including regular texts, videos, photos, GIFs, documents and photos. On a side note, WhatsApp proposed the limit on forwards could be down in other countries.
